Trying the pyrography...!

A few days before, A bought a soldering iron, which contained some copper attachments that can be used for wood burning. Today, after a long day at University, I decided to take a break by giving pyrography a try! It was more like an experiment, which didn't know if could work! I really had no idea about what to make, just googled pyrography designs and found some in flickr.
Then, I copied the drawings on a piece of plywood using a pencil (didn't use a see through paper)

and by using two attachments, a pointed for the contour and a conical for the fill, started the burning..

 So here's the final picture..
..and a more artistic along with my plants!
A new hobby begins??
Dedicated to A, who has his birthday today!
Always have a great time,
Angeliki

Our first potatoes..!!!!

Hello dear blog-friends! My semester's exams begin next week so I was lost from the blogsphere for a couple of days, to focus and get prepared! But, while I was taking a nap today to get some rest, A woke me up to show me something really extraordinary which had to be posted..
He had only digged the soil a little, and waited for me to also get the joy!
In the end of January, A planted a small piece of potato with its eyes up and now, two cute potatoes seemed to appear! So, without losing more time, started together removing the dead plant and the upper soil until the potatoes were completely revealed!
These kid-potatoes are so cute, aren't they?
That was the best surprise ever! We're planning to plant some more next year!
Hope you're also enjoying your days,
Angeliki

Drilling some holes..!

The truth is that I don't have a watering can! Instead of that, I water my plants using a plastic bottle! But, as my DIY philosophy enrises, I decided to somehow convert the bottle to a proper watering can by drilling some holes to the its cover. The problem was that I didn't know how to do this, so I was shown by my bf! I should say that it's not difficult, it only needs some practice!
                                                               So here's me, drilling..

   and the result..
It's not completelly perfect but these are my first holes..!

Now let's see if it's working..
It can't replace a proper watering can but it's fun, isn't it?

Balcony Transformation..!

Today the whole morning was dedicated to my plants' transplanting! It was actually the first time I was transplanting something and was guided by my bf who has more experience on the subject! So he made an example for me, by transplanting the basil,
and then I went on...!

Firstly, I removed the roots of an older plant from my bigger pot and mixed the soil with the help of a small rake,

to get it prepared for the hollyhocks!

After, that I  went on with the moon flower,

filling a pot with some last year's soil taken away from the previous pot..

then  creating a small root cellar, and then adding a small amount of enriched soil  bought from the market,

placing the moon flower on the top. The plant had been previously removed from its plastic pot.

Finally, the adding of some extra soil and..voila!
The same procedure was repeated for all of my new flowers, ending to a completely "new" balcony, so

here's before...
and after!

What do you think?

New plants..!

Today one of my University's professor gave me all these plants to transplant! Moon flowers, basil, hollyhocks, and clove pink! He has actually made a whole field outside of his lab, where he has cultivated all of these and many more! He even has corn plants!

I'm so excited and have to find some really big flowerpots for hollyhocks and  moon flowers because they need enough room to expand!

Proud Azalea...

Today my mother bought me this beautiful Azalea! I love her colour, it's so bright and happy!

So, I placed her next to my precious Zinnia to keep her company!

They look so pretty together!

Crochet coasters...

Once I saw Ellen's crochet pretties, I really wanted to make them too! I found the pattern via her pin and gave it a try! What amazed me the most about this motif, was the fact that the pattern was originally printed in a book of the year 1893!!

I also made a board on pinterest about pattern instructions I'll collect, for my future projects!!
You can follow me and suggest me your ideas!! :-)

My precious Zinnia...!

Today I bought from the market, this small pot with Zinnia! Once I saw this bright orange colour, I fell in love with it immediately! When I got home, I looked for more infos about this plant in the flower expert, and decided to write a few words!
Well, Zinnia elegans (that's my baby!!), originated in Mexico, is the most popular amongst the others Zinnias' species. It needs a hot climate to grow and full sun.
A really impressing thing I discovered touching its leaves, was the sandpaper like in texture!!

Butterflies are particularly attracted to Zinias, so I hope to have some great visitors in my balcony soon..!

I'm not sure if I have to transplant my lovely Zinnia....

Making a flower..

This is my first attempt to crochet something without watching a video tutorial, following written instructions instead! So, firstly, I crocheted the flower and then the petals, according to Lucy's tutorial. Then I used a yarn needle to join the two petals together! As you can see, the flower is not perfect  but I enjoyed the moment  and wanted to share it with you!

Crocheting a rose...

I love crocheting flowers so much! This is my first attempt to crochet a rose...!
Unfortunatelly the photo is a bit blur because it's taken with a mobile phone camera!
